The soon-to-be First Lady Jill Biden named Indian-American Garima Verma as her new digital director on Thursday. Verma, who was born in India and grew up in Ohio and California, will bring "a shared commitment to building an administration that lifts up all Americans," Biden noted in a statement.
Michael LaRosa has also joined the team as press secretary and Biden also mentioned about including more staff from "varied and diverse backgrounds," a report by CNN said.

Verma sharing her excitement on the appointment said, "This past year, I took a leap of faith. I didn't know where it would lead — all I knew was that I wanted to dedicate my life to the service of others, to advocating for and empowering different communities, and to doing what I could to make the world a better place for everyone."

She further said that she found her "next righteous fight" and expressed gratitude and honour to lead the virtual campaigns for "such an intelligent, talented, empathetic leader like Dr. Biden." Adding that she can't wait to take charge and see what happens next with the Biden-Harris team and how together they will "tackle important issues facing our communities."
I couldn't be more excited to have found my next righteous fight. I don't even have the words to express how much it means to me to be in a position to work with such an intelligent, talented, empathetic leader like Dr. Biden and tackle important issues facing our communities.

She also reflected on the "sacrifices" made by her parents and acknowledged their hard work.
I can't help but reflect on the sacrifices my parents made moving across the world (with a child!) to protect us and give us a better life. They spent their lives working hard to give us a chance to succeed. I am honored to fight for them and so many immigrant families like mine.

Sarah J. Galvez, director of social and audience development for the Biden campaign, congratulated Verma and claimed that she "blew me away" with her "tenacity" and "dedication".
Proud manager alert: @gverma289 was one of the easiest hires I made on the campaign. She blew me away with her tenacity, dedication to making our content look like our country, & she’s just a really lovely human. I can’t wait to see what she’ll do leading digital for @DrBiden 💕 pic.twitter.com/ZlgI5V0Om8

Verma also thanked Galvez for "taking a chance" on her. She said she received support from Galvez when she "wanted so badly to fight to change the world."
I'm so beyond thankful to @SJ_Galvez for taking a chance on a passionate digital strategist who wasn't in politics yet, but wanted so badly to fight to change the world 💛 https://t.co/OcAaUsz3q2
