In an interview taken on Friday, Kom said she wanted to win a medal for India. She said that she believed in the ring that she had won and for 10 minutes after that also it never struck her that she had lost the match. She added that she had missed the announcement that was made in the ring because in her mind she had won and had raised her hands.

She later added, "Later, when I was in the doping room my coach told me ‘you were the winner, don’t be sad’, and I was still not able to understand why he was saying this. It was only after I got a mobile notification from Kiren Rijiju that is when I realised that I had actually lost the fight and I could not control myself emotionally. And the rules now are such that we cannot challenge the decision or review the fight."

Mary Kom is a world champion in boxing. After her loss, she also slammed the IOC Boxing Task Force for poor judgement which cost her the bout against Columbian Boxer Ingrit Valencia. Yet after the decision, the 38-year-old raised her hand up in the air to the judges with a big smile on her face.
