Woman Killed For Eloping: A 20-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her family members at their home in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior city. The police suspect it to be a case of honour killing as the woman had eloped with a man from a different community.
The woman was found dead on August 2 when her father told police that she died by suicide. After the forensic reports of the spot came out, the police arrested the deceased woman’s father and brother on Wednesday. As per the police statement, three other accused persons are yet to be nabbed as they are currently absconding.
The woman had reportedly left her house to be with a man from a different community on June 5 and came back on July 7. In her absence, her family had filed a missing person’s report at the Janakganj police station, Superintendent of Police Atmaram Sharma said.
Post her return, the woman was reportedly kept in a shelter. SP Sharma said that on July 31 the woman gave her consent to be with her parents. Two days later, her father went to the police station and claimed that his daughter had hanged herself.
The police reached the location with forensic experts and reportedly got suspicious during the probe. The forensic experts’ reports also stated that the woman did not kill herself but was allegedly hanged by others.
The SP said that the father and brother of the deceased woman later confessed to the police that they had killed her. The two were then booked under charges of murder. The police are still on the lookout for the three other accused persons who are also related to the deceased woman, the police said.
