Madhur Jaffery was born in Civil Lines, Delhi during the British era and grew up in a family that loved having different cuisines like Mughlai and Punjabi. From a very young age, spices and flavourful curries fascinated her. In college, she joined theatre and was often a part of Shakespeare's and other plays. One time, the Head of the British Council saw her perform on stage and was very impressed by her acting skills. He offered her a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and that's when Jaffery decided to move to Southampton and pursue acting as a career. During her time at RADA and in Britain she realised how much she missed Indian food and spices.

Jaffery has been a part of TV shows, plays, theatre and movies but her major achievements are in the hospitality and food sector. She has written best-selling cookbooks on Asian and Indian cuisine like Curry Easy Vegetarian, Madhur Jaffery's Indian Cookery and Flavors Of India.
