Former UP Minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani Tripathi are soon to be released from jail after being convicted for the murder case of poetess Madhumani Shukla for a lifetime sentence.

With the permission of the Governor, The Uttar Pradesh Prisons Administration and Reforms Department has issued an order to release the ex-UP minister and his wife.

Madhumita Murder Case:

On May 9, 2023, 24-year-old budding poetess Madhumita Shukla was gunned down in the streets of Paper Mill Colony in Lucknow by two visitors who shot her dead at close range in her two-room apartment. The young poet has been rising from the fame of her veer-ras poems and has been the star of many kavi sammelans of her time.

The four-time Indian National Congress MLA, Amarmani allegedly had an extramarital affair with poetess Shukla as after the post-mortem reports of her death it was revealed the poetess was carrying a foetus that matched the DNA of Amarmani.

Tripathi couple were then accused of setting up a conspiracy to murder the poetess to save their societal image and political career.

The murder case was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In October 2007 the Special Judge/Sessions Judge of Dehradhun sentenced former minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani Tripathi to life imprisonment as guilty for Madhumita Shukla's murder case.
