Liz Cheney wins vote, retains House Grand Old Party leadership role: On Wednesday, through a secret ballot voting process at night, the House Republicans decided to keep Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney in her leadership role. 145 members of the House of Republicans voted to keep her in the role whereas 61 members voted to strip her of the position.

Cheney had come under the fire from Republicans following her vote to impeach former US President Donald Trump. Her decision did not go down with many party leaders who asked for her removal from her leadership position. The call to Trump came after his supporters attacked Capitol Hill, in order to overturn the 2020 election results that put Democrat Party’s Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in power. Five people died in the Capitol Hill attack.

During the voting process, Liz Cheney didn’t apologise for her January 13 vote to impeach former US President Trump. She defended her act by terming it as an act of conscience, the one that she stands by. Moreover, Liz Cheney did argue that she is a team player and should continue in her leadership position.

Post the voting process, Bloomberg Quint quoted her saying, “It was a very resounding acknowledgement that we need to go forward together.”

The House impeached Trump on the sole charge of inciting a violent uprising after his supporters had attacked the Capitol in a deadly attack as Congress was about to certify the Electoral College victory of Joe Biden.

It was a very resounding acknowledgement that we need to go forward together: Liz Cheney wins vote, retains House GOP leadership.
