Law Student Testifies In Court, Chinmayanand Complains Of Uneasiness
The law student, who accused BJP leader Chinmayanand of repeated rape over a period of one year, appeared in a Shahjahanpur court on Monday to record her statement. The girl was brought into the court under heavy security of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the UP Police after which the court hearing went on for around five hours. She recorded her statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before a judicial magistrate.
Meanwhile, the former Minister of State of Home in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Chinmayanand reportedly complained of “uneasiness and weakness” on the same day. Pictures released by his aides showed him getting medically treated by doctors during the night. In one of the pictures, the 72-year-old politician is seen hooked to the medical apparatus at his ashram, Divya Dham in Shahjahanpur. The team of doctors later told reporters that he is suffering from Diarrhoea. “He is also diabetic and this led to weakness. We have given him necessary medication and advised him complete rest,” ML Agarwal, the doctor leading the team, said, NDTV reported.

Despite the fact that the girl has alleged that Chinmayanand raped her several times in one year in her police complaint and reiterated it in her statement with a Delhi court and a Shahjahanpur court, the UP police have still not charged him of rape. As of now, he has only been booked under Sections 364 (kidnapping or abduction with the purpose of murder) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) by the UP Police.
The 23-year-old girl, who was studying a master’s course in a Shahjahanpur law college run by Chinmayanand, claimed in an interview recently how he first helped her get admission in the college and then started to blackmail her with a video of her taking bath taken from a hidden camera. She said that she was taken to Chinmayanand’s room by his aides at gunpoint and she was not allowed to mingle with others in the college. She also alleged that a girl studying an undergraduate course and a male teacher were also summoned by Chinmayanand to go to his room routinely to give him massages. She has voiced that some of the evidence that she had have either been tampered or have gone missing.
The girl went missing on August 24 right after publishing the video on Facebook. She was found a week later in Rajasthan by UP Police. The SC bench comprising of Justice R Banumathi and AS Bopanna took Suo Motu cognizance of the case and directed the UP Police to set up an SIT to handle it.
Chinmayanand has filed a cross-complaint against the girl for maligning his image and has called the allegations against him fake and a conspiracy against him. He isn’t new to criminal cases, as in November 2011 he was charged with rape after a girl who had lived at his Ashram for several years accused him. However, the Yogi Adityanath government in March this year had filed a plea to withdraw the case. But in May, a local court rejected it.
