Veteran Singer Lata Mangeshkar Passes Away At 92

She was 92. She was hospitalised in January this year after she tested positive for COVID-19. She was also diagnosed with pneumonia. She was on the path to recovery but her condition deteriorated on 5 February. Since then, the singer was put under aggressive therapy and was tolerating the procedures but eventually died.

Lata Mangeshkar Death: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away today on 6 February. She was 92. She was hospitalised in January this year after she tested positive for COVID-19. She was also diagnosed with pneumonia. She was on the path to recovery but her condition deteriorated on 5 February. Since then, the singer was put under aggressive therapy and was tolerating the procedures but eventually died.

A lot of politicians and celebrities took to social media to pay their condolences to the veteran singer. "A Bharat Ratna, Lata-Ji’s accomplishments will remain incomparable," said President Ram Nath Kovind.

"Lata Didi’s songs brought out a variety of emotions. She closely witnessed the transitions of the Indian film world for decades. Beyond films, she was always passionate about India’s growth. She always wanted to see a strong and developed India", tweeted PM Narendra Modi. 

"Not only music industry but India has lost it's soul today. This is truly a tragic news that the queen of melodies and Bharat Ratna has left us. Rest in Peace Lata Mangeshkar Ji. Om Shanti #LataMangeshkar", said Kiren Rijiju. 

Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan tweeted, "Your music touched our soul and made us smile. Rest in Peace Lata Mangeshkar Ji. Your legacy will inspire generations to come."

Cricketer Mithali Raj tweeted ,"Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkarji will forever live in our hearts. My condolences to her the family. May her soul rest in peace. Om Shanti"

Delhi Education Minister tweeted, "Lata ji's demise has left a void that can never be filled. India has lost its Nightingale today. May her soul rest in peace."

  • Aiye Mere Watan Ke Logon : This song that moved every Indian with its most powerful lyrics. A tribute to those who were martyred and sacrificed for the country. It’s the song that gives us all goose bumps
  • Tere mere Milan ki yeh Raina in the film Abhimaan starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, purportedly about their careers and challenges, was a song that brought alive the real life characters onto the screen.
  • Ajib Dastan Hai Yeh featuring the stunning Meena Kumari is amongst the biggest hits of its time. From the film Dil Apna Preet Parai, the song is set by a lake under trees. The film tells the story of a surgeon who is obligated to marry the daughter of a family friend, while he is in love with a colleague nurse, played by Meena Kumari. It is one of the noted acting performances of lead actress Meena Kumari's career
  • Kora Kagaz tha yeh man mera from the film Aradhana starring Sharmila Tagore was a big hit song. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar this song brought out the love triangle in a significant and moving way.
  • Yeh Raat Bheegi Bheegi portrayed on Nargis was another bit hit. In the film Chori Chori, when her father disapproves of her relationship with Sumankumar, Kammo runs away to be with him. However, when she meets Sagar, a simple journalist, she falls in love with him, which changes her life.
  • Lata Mangeshkar sang the score for Umrao Jaan featuring Rekha. The emotional and moving lyrics of In Aankhon Ki Masti are known for their piercing feelings.

She was India’s most iconic singer. At 92, she leaves behind 30000 songs if not more.  Mangeshkar also sang in Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati languages. She was called India’s nightingale for good reason.
