Aisha Sultana violating COVID-19 norms: Lakshadweep filmmaker and activist, who was previously accused of sedition, was accused of violating COVID-19 protocols for not maintaining the seven-day mandatory home quarantine rule on June 22.

The officials stated that Sultana interacted with people and roamed around during her quarantine and warned her of stringent action against her if she repeated it.

District Collector as well as chairman of the Disaster Management Authority S Asker Ali issued a caution notice to Sultana and stated that Sultana, who arrived at Kavaratti on June 19 after being summoned by police for questioning, moved out of the place of her stay, visited public places and mingled with other people, violating the seven-day mandatory home quarantine rule of the island since May 12.

The Filmmaker was previously booked by Laksadweep police who pressed sedition charges on her while she was in Kerala. She came back to Lakshadweep after visiting the Kavaratti police as per court order.

She was booked by the Kavaratti police on June 9 for claiming that the Centre used a "bioweapon" against the people of Lakshadweep. This statement was made by her while participating in a debate on a Malayalam news channel on June 7.

However, The administration stated that Sultana was excused from the mandatory quarantine provision only for the purpose of interrogation in the case against her.

According to a report by NDTV, Sultana allegedly interacted with COVID-19 positive patients, violated the home quarantine direction and roamed in public places, interacted with the public and visited a First-Line Treatment Centre.

The administration in its notice said that undeniably these actions are illegal, hence, Sultana is hereby cautioned that stringent actions will be taken against her if she violates the quarantine rule again.
