Socialite Kim Kardashian West on Wednesday opened up about her husband and rapper Kanye West’s bipolar disorder on social media. She urged the media and the public to show “compassion and empathy” regarding the rapper’s recent erratic behaviour.

Kanye West revealed his bipolar disorder diagnosis on his 2018 album “Ye”. He referred to it as his “superpower.” In 2019, he also said that because of the disorder, he had paranoid delusions. Bipolar disorder can cause extreme mood swings ranging from extreme energy and activity to depression.

“Kanye is a brilliant and complicated person who on top of being an artist and a black man, experienced the painful loss of his mother. He has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye understand that his words sometimes do not align with his intentions,” Kim Kardashian wrote in an Instagram story.
