Socialite Kim Kardashian West on Wednesday opened up about her husband and rapper Kanye West's bipolar disorder on social media. She urged the media and the public to show "compassion and empathy" regarding the rapper's recent erratic behaviour.

Kanye West revealed his bipolar disorder diagnosis on his 2018 album "Ye". He referred to it as his "superpower." In 2019, he also said that because of the disorder, he had paranoid delusions. Bipolar disorder can cause extreme mood swings ranging from extreme energy and activity to depression.

“Kanye is a brilliant and complicated person who on top of being an artist and a black man, experienced the painful loss of his mother. He has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye understand that his words sometimes do not align with his intentions,” Kim Kardashian wrote in an Instagram story.

In a series of now-deleted tweets, Kanye accused his mother-in-law and his wife of attempting to lock him up. He also said that he had been trying to divorce Kim.

“We as a society talk about giving grace to the issue of mental health as a whole. However, we should also give it to the individuals who are living with it. I kindly ask that the media and public give us the compassion and empathy,” Kim wrote. She concluded her statement by saying that living with bipolar disorder did not invalidate her husband's ambitions. Furthermore, she also stated that many of his big dreams have come true.
