Kevin Guthrie Gets Jail Term Of 3 Years In Sexual Attack Case, Here's What We Know

Scottish actor Kevin Guthrie has now been given a three-year jail sentence, for sexually assaulting a woman in Glasgow.

On Friday, May 14, the Glasgow Sheriff Court, sentenced him to prison. He was found guilty of committing the crime in April last year. Besides his prison sentence, Guthrie has also been put on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.

Here's what we know about the case against Kevin Guthrie:

1. Kevin Guthrie had sexually assaulted a 29-year-old woman inside the flat of a fellow actor, Scott Reid in Glasgow. He did this between September 30 and October 1, 2017.
2. He, Reid and the woman were supposed to meet each other at a bar in Glasgow. But Reid had got a call from the taxi driver, to collect her as she appeared to be ill.
3. Reid and Kevin Guthrie then helped the woman get into the former's flat, and soon, she was put to bed. Reid then called NHS 24 helpline and left Guthrie to take care of the woman.
4. That's when Kevin decided to take advantage of her. During the trial, the woman told the court the following: "I remember my top being lifted up and my bra being held down."
5. Guthrie groped her, and sexually assaulted her. He then kissed her and assaulted her two more times.
6. However, Guthrie denied these charges against him and said that he had only "helped" the woman when she fell ill.
7. The jury was then told that his DNA was found inside the woman's underwear.
8. Sheriff Tom Hughes told Guthrie: "The court must show that women can be protected from domestic sexual offences." He also added that the jury accepts the fact that Guthrie had committed a heinous crime, and that the appropriate punishment for him was imprisonment.
