Her daughters, aged 13 and nine were found hanging in their home in Walayar, Palakkad district, in the same year. The elder one was found dead on January 13, 2017, and the younger one on March 4, 2017. It was said to be a case of sexual assault.

She was joined in her protest by other women, two of them also shaved their heads. MP Remya Haridas, congress leader and Lathika Subhash, Congress president were also present at the protest site. The women were raising slogans against the police and asking for justice for the deceased girls and their mother.

The woman had been staging satyagraha for the past one month and decided to tonsure her head weeks after the LDF government handed the case of her daughters to CBI. She alleged a lapse in the investigation of the police personnel.

Last month, the high court had also ordered a re-trial of the case. This was done after the mother and the state government submitted appeals to the court on January 26 claiming miscarriage of justice in the ruling of a division bench.

In 2019, a Division Bench headed by Justice A Hariprasad and MR Anitha had acquitted the five persons accused in the case by setting aside the POSCO act. The state government had also removed the public prosecutor of the case.
