Kerala Congress Vice-president K C Rosakutty Resigns From The Party

K C Rosakutty, the vice president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) announced her resignation on Monday.

"I have taken this decision after long deliberations. I am fed up with the faction wars in the party and hence decided to resign. The Congress party has been continuously ignoring women in the party," she said.

The latest move comes a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Kerala for a two-day visit.

Rosakutty was looking forward to contesting in the assembly elections, and had sought the support of the Catholic Church to acquire a ticket for the same.

On March 14, Kerala Congress' women's wing president Lathika Subhash had shaved her head at the KPCC headquarters after she was denied a ticket to contest the polls. Subhash along with many other leaders decided to resign from the Congress. This includes Ramani P Nair, the secretary of the KPCC and 23 district level office bearers, seven-block presidents in Kannur.

The Kerala assembly elections will be held on April 6 and the counting of the votes will take place on May 2.

Who is K C Rosakutty?

K C Rosakutty is the former MLA from Sulthan Bathery who had also served as the chief of Kerala's women's commission. She has been a part of the Congress party for over 30 years now. She was elected as MLA from Sulthan Bathery in 1991. Besides this, she has also been a member of the AICC, and the Congress political affairs committee.
