Remember Tajamul Islam? In 2016, the Kashmiri girl created history by winning a gold medal in the under-8 for India in the World Kickboxing Championship held in Andria, Italy. After two years of achieving gold, the former World Kickboxing Champion met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Jammu Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti recently and received a warm hug from the ruling party leaders.
Young Tajamul stole the show as a national kickboxing champion when she paved her way by knocking down rival from the US to become the world champion. She is the first Kashmiri girl who had achieved such a feat.
Tajamul remained the centre of attraction at this event organised by the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council in Srinagar. The sports conclave felicitated talented sports personalities for their work in their respective fields.

Tajamul was overwhelming with her dazzling smile and the audience loved her as soon as she walked up on stage to accept the award from the two officials. The young athlete went forward to hug Home Minister Rajnath Singh and further took a selfie with them to memorize this moment forever.
Tajamul was the first Kashmiri to represent India at the World Kickboxing Championship 2016. The then eight-year-old has since then been a true symbol of hope and determination for her home state.
In 2015, she won national recognition when she clinched the gold medal in the sub-junior category at the National Kickboxing Championship, held at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.

Tajamul’s achievement at the national level got her a ticket to the World Championships. Interestingly, kickboxing wasn’t her first choice. She also excels in Wushu and is also doing well in Taekwondo. She got into kickboxing when in 2014 she joined a local academy, which trains young boys and girls in martial arts. Her brother and two sisters are also kickboxers.
