A group of young girls don't let cold weather or snow get in the way of their passion. In the far-flung Beerwah town of Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the girls practice martial arts outside in the snow.

Photographs show the girls practising martial arts barefoot in the snow and sparring with each other. Their instructor can be seen leading them through practice.

The coach, Sujat spoke with Asian News International (ANI) and revealed that several of the girls he taught called him up and said they wanted to practice even in snow, despite the fact that it had snowed heavily.

The girls said they didn't want to lag behind as they aimed to compete at international platforms and the Olympics.

One of the girls, Muskan said, "We don't have indoor practice facilities. But our passion is so strong that we practice even in snow. We want to represent India, Kashmir and make our parents proud."

Two sisters from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir made a snow sculpture to pay tribute to the corona warriors. Quratal Ain Zohra, a doctor, and Aiman Zohra, made the sculpture which includes models of a lady doctor with a stethoscope and a syringe loaded with COVID-19 vaccine.

Quratal spoke with Press Trust of India and said that the snow sculpture was a tribute to everyone who was involved in the fight against COVID. She said, "The doctors, the paramedics, police, ambulance drivers, and media... Everyone has played a role in combating this pandemic."

Recently, the Indian Army walked through knee-deep snowfall to rescue an elderly woman who was in severe pain from a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir on the Line of Control.

The Indian Army's Chinar Corps warriors swiftly evacuated the woman and carried her on their backs to minimise injury.

The Indian Army had also airlifted a pregnant woman in critical condition from Karnah to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. Several soldiers also came forward to donate blood to save the woman's life.
