Karnataka: Women Govt Employees Now Entitled To Six-month Child Care Leave

Karnataka Child Care Leave: There’s some good news for women government employees in Karnataka. Benifits of six-month child care leave (CCL) will be provided to government women employees, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa announced on International women's day on Monday.

"Women employees of the state government will be given a total of six months child care leave along with maternity leave which is already in existence," the announcement came with a surprise gift of Rs 37,188 crore for women-oriented programmes.

It was during the 2021-22 budget presenting in the Legislative Assembly when the CM proposed upgradation of Anganwadis situated in Bengaluru and other cities for the benefit of urban women employees. "This will be a supplementary step towards the welfare of women who are a very important part of the administrative machinery," he added. The benefits of child care leave are generally granted to women employees.

Now, women employed at government services will also get loan facility of up to Rs two crore at a subsidised rate of four percent through Woman Development Board/Karnataka State Finance Corporation to women entrepreneurs in the service sector, Yediyurappa announced focusing on women and the development.

Other proposed benefits include technical support to small enterprises of women, providing market to the products manufactured by women self-help groups and women entrepreneurs, providing pass at concessional rate to women labourers of garment sector in Bengaluru, and commencement of 'Women Protection and Empowerment Mission' etc.
