The visit is a diplomatic affair which is aimed at tackling the migration issue which is rampant on the southern border of the United States. On Tuesday, Kamala Harris told reporters that she was "looking forward to travelling" to the Northern Triangle, with stops at Mexico and Guatemala.

This will be her first trip abroad ever since she was elected as Vice President of the United States. However, her visit to these places depends on the COVID-19 current situation and the restrictions imposed.

However, when Kamala Harris was asked whether she plans to visit the border or not, she said no. She added that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is responsible for dealing with the increasing migrations, while she will only be focusing on the root causes of the migration.

Both Kamala Harris and president Joe Biden have been criticised by GOP lawmakers for not paying a visit to the border. Instead, Biden has sent some of his top officials to deal with the situation.

The situation at the border is grave which is evident in the photos showcasing minors held up in crowded detention centres.

This has now made the Republicans blame Joe Biden and Harris for the ongoing situation at the border. "He can stop this today," said Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., the GOP whip. "Vice President Harris needs to go down to the border and see this for herself."

The number of migrations to the US has escalated dramatically ever since Biden did away with some of Donald Trump's policies. In a bid to get over this situation, Harris has now been made to take care of migrations from  Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, etc.

"We have to figure out how to assess our impact," she said, but added, "it will not be obvious overnight."
