Kamala Harris Shares Old Pictures From Alma Mater, Talks About Her Early Political Journey

Harris was part of a sorority named Alpha Kappa Alpha of which is going to have its 113th Founders' Day celebration on January 15.

Kamala Harris, Vice-President-elect of the United States of America, took to Instagram to share pictures from college days. Harris gave credit to Howard University for her initial involvement in politics. She wrote," For me, Howard is home."

Harris shared that during her college days, she went to protest the apartheid, became the president of an economics club and was part of a debate team. She wrote that she ran her first election at the University. Harris was also part of a sorority named Alpha Kappa Alpha of which is going to have its 113th Founders' Day celebration on January 15.

Harris further added, " And along the way, Howard taught me that while you will often find that you're the only one in the room who looks like you, or who has had the experiences you’ve had, you must remember: you are never alone. Your entire Bison family will be in that room with you, cheering you on, as you speak up and speak out. We’re with you every step of the way."

She has decided to share about people, places and moments that have had an influence on her life. On January 14, Harris posted old pictures with her neighbour and first-grade teacher. She wrote that outside of her mother, these two women have helped shape what she is today. Before that Harris posted pictures with her mother and sister giving them credit for her success and for inspiring her.

Kamala Harris is not only the first woman from Indian origin to be elected as the Vice-President of the United States of America but also the first woman to ever do so. On January 20, Joe Biden, the President-elect and Harris will have their inauguration ceremony.
