The portrait is part of an exhibition that aims to commemorate the achievements of women in America. The statement released by the National Women's History Museum also celebrated her for being the first graduate of a Historically Black College and University to become the vice president US.

The exhibition will be on display through February 6. President and CEO of the National Women's History Museum said, “Representation matters, especially at the ballot box, and the inauguration of Kamala Harris as the first woman, and first woman of colour, to serve as vice president of the United States is a landmark moment in American history.”

Harris is the daughter of Shyamala Gopalan Harris who hailed from Chennai and practised as a cancer researcher in the US. Harris' father, Donald Harris is a Jamaican American and professor of economics. Kamala Harris took over the VP office on January 20.

Kamala Harris glass portrait honours how she broke the glass ceiling. It is being done by the National Women's History Museum which is America's renowned women's history museum dedicated to celebrating women and their contributions to the society. The other institution behind the installation is Chief, which is a private network supporting women leaders.

The portrait also has a QR code on it for visitors to scan which will take them to Instagram Spark AR. It will give the visitor an immersive feel as they will be able to witness Kamala Harris' journey through Augmented Reality. The portrait is based on a colour photograph of Harris taken by Celeste Sloman who represents ATRBUTE, New York. Simon Berger's Kamala Harris glass portrait measures 6.5 feet x 6.5 feet.

Hotchner said that today’s progress is built on the legacy of the women who came before. She then named Kamala Harris as a trailblazer and applauded her for marching for people's rights, running for and getting elected for the office. She added that women like Harris cracked glass ceilings so that other women could shatter them.

Lindsay Kaplan, the co-founder of Chief said that the Kamala Harris glass portrait not only celebrates Harris but also recognises the women who came before her and the ones who will come after. Kaplan hopes that the exhibit will prove to women of all backgrounds that can bring about change and join the few women holding executive roles.
