US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff, who have been married for more than six years, recently recalled how their first date was a sign that they were in for something special. On January 20, Harris will become the first woman Vice-President of the United States. With her swearing-in, her husband Emhoff will become the first Second Gentleman of the US.

Emhoff also said that he felt as if the two knew each other since "forever" just after their first date. He further revealed that he e-mailed Harris his availabilities for the next four months, which also included long weekends as he wanted things to work out with Harris. "I remember saying something like, 'I'm too old to hide the ball. You're great. I want to see if we can make this work. Here's when I'm available next,'" he added.
Harris jokingly revealed in the interview that she was "terrified" with this unexpected move by Emhoff.
Maya Harris, sister of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris said that she was sure that Emhoff was the right one for her sister. "The way he made her laugh, it reminded me of our mothers' words who always said, 'life will have its ups and downs, so you make sure that you find a life partner who makes you laugh.'" Harris is a first-term US senator from California, who won the 2020 US election alongside Presidential candidate Joe Biden. Her husband Emhoff was previously married to film producer Kerstin Emhoff. The couple also had two children together – Cole and Ella, before they went their separate ways. Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff got married at the Santa Barbara, California, courthouse after Emhoff proposed to Harris in 2014.
