Who Is Kalpana Soren? Wife Of Jailed Jharkhand EX-CM Shares Statement

Kalpana Soren, the wife of Jharkhand ex-chief minister Hemant Soren shared a sentimental statement on their wedding anniversary, as the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader spends term in jail. She wrote a heartfelt message, stating that her husband "did not bow down from protecting the existence and identity of Jharkhand." She added, "Today is our 18th wedding anniversary, but Hemant ji is not among the family... not with our children. We believe that he will defeat this conspiracy and join us all soon." Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a land scam case.

Amid the ongoing drama in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, Kalpana Soren expressed optimism through the former CM's X (Twitter) handle. Sharing a photograph of the couple, she said, "I am the life partner of a brave Jharkhandi warrior. I will not be emotional today. Like Hemant ji, I would smile even in difficult circumstances and become his strength of courage and struggle." 

Who Is Kalpana Soren?

Not much is known about Kalpana Murmu Soren's personal life or professional background. She has largely avoided the limelight, preferring to stay behind the scenes as Hemant Soren carved his political path. Hailing from Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, she was married to Soren in February 2006, and together they have two children named Nikhil and Ansh.

Kalpana is the daughter of a businessman who also runs a charity while her mother is a homemaker. She has studied engineering and is an MBA graduate. As per the reports, Kalpana runs a school and owns three commercial buildings while she is also involved in organic farming and works towards children's and women's empowerment. 

Kalpana made headlines in 2022 when former CM Raghubar Das made claims that Hemant Soren misused his position to launch a plot in an industrial area for his wife's company. There were also several speculations during Hemant Soren's recent investigation, claiming she would replace him. However, Champai Soren became the seventh Chief Minister of Jharkhand on February 2.

Why Was Hemant Soren Arrested?

Kalpana Soren has found herself thrust into the centre of Indian political intrigue amidst her husband's arrest over an 8.5-acre land scam. Hemant Soren has just resigned from the post of Chief Minister before being arrested as part of a probe into a "huge racket of illegal change of ownership of land by the mafia.," India Today reported.

On January 29, the Enforcement Directorate declared Hemant Soren "untraceable" and "missing" for 30 hours after an investigation broke out at his New Delhi residence. He had reportedly skipped nine summonses by the ED earlier. Soren arrived at his official residence in Ranchi on January 30, where he held a meeting with his legislation. He appeared before the ED and resigned from the post of CM on January 31, after which he was arrested.

During the investigation, Hemant Soren had denied the allegations against him, claiming that 'Raj Bhavan was also involved' in his arrest. The JMM leader also alleged conspiracy, stating, "The script for my arrest was ready since 2022." He added, "If they have the courage, then they should show the documents of the said land registered in my name. If it is proven, I will quit politics."
