Kajol, Reema Kagti Among 397 Members Invited To Join Oscars Committee

The directors' chapter has welcomed Pan, who is known for directing movies like Angry Indian Goddesses and Last Film Show.

Kajol Joins Oscars Committee
The latest Bollywood actor to be invited to join the Oscars committee is Kajol. Other members of the group include Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed its guest list for the Class of 2022 on Tuesday, and Kajol is the only star from the Hindi cinema industry to be invited to join this year.

One of the 397 new members appointed to the Oscars committee this year was Kajol, who will have worked in the film industry for thirty years next month. She can cast her ballot for the 95th Academy Awards if she accepts the offer. Kajol hasn't responded to the news yet, but her followers have congratulated her on it, with one adding, "So proud of you."

In addition to Kajol, the committee has received invitations from five additional members of the Indian film industry. Suriya was the first Tamil actor to be asked to the committee, and his most recent films, Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim, both gained critical acclaim on a global scale. Reema Kagti, a screenwriter and director who collaborated with Zoya Akhtar on the scripts for movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Talaash, and Gully Boy, has been extended an invitation by the writers' chapter. 

Reportedly, among the new invitees are the filmmakers Sushmit Ghosh, Rintu Thomas, and Pan Nalin. The documentary branch includes Sushmit and Rintu, whose film Writing With Fire received an Academy Award nomination for best documentary feature. The directors' chapter has welcomed Pan, who is known for directing movies like Angry Indian Goddesses and Last Film Show. As per reports, total 397 individuals have been invited to join the Academy Awards committee. 

The incoming class of 2022 consists of 71 Oscar nominees and 15 winners, with 44% of the participants being female and 37% coming from marginalised groups. The Academy will only welcome new members in 2022 if they accept the invites.
