Dalit Woman Gangraped At Gunpoint By Four Men In Uttar Pradesh

Jewar Dalit Woman Gangrape: In Uttar Pradesh's Jewar district, a 55-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped by four men on Sunday morning. The accused allegedly dragged the woman to a field where they gangraped her on gunpoint, as per reports.

The police have reportedly nabbed one accused man on Wednesday. He has been identified as Mahendra. According to reports, apart from civil police, the Special Operations Group and SWAT were also involved in nabbing the accused.

A police official said, "Accused Mahendra was arrested on Wednesday from a spot near his village in Jewar. He was picked up by a joint team of the Jewar police, the Special Operations Group and the SWAT."

The accused person has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe act. The charges against the accused persons are gangrape, criminal intimidation and assault or criminal force otherwise than grave provocation.

"A reward of Rs 25,000 was announced on information leading to the arrest of Mahendra in the wake of the incident in which another person has already been arrested and sent to jail, " a police officer said. The police have lodged an FIR against the accused. One other accused person was arrested on Monday.

As per reports, the one accused arrested in the case was earlier booked for theft and trespassing. As other accused persons are yet to be identified, only Mahendra's name has been mentioned in the complaint. The 55-year-old survivor reportedly identified the other accused person by looking at a picture shown to her. The case has sparked another political controversy in Uttar Pradesh as the opposition parties Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) condemned the state government for not ensuring the safety of women in the state.
