Jane Fonda To Receive Lumiere Award 2018
American actress and producer Jane Fonda will receive the prestigious Lumiere Award at the 10th Lumiere Festival in Lyon, France. The festival will be held from October 13 to 21. Festival director Thierry Fremaux will present the award to Fonda on October 19.
Fonda will be the second woman to receive this honour. French actress Catherine Deneuve was the first woman to receive this honorary award
Fonda said she is “over the moon” to be receiving this honour. “I am honoured to be invited to the Lumiere festival in Lyon,” she said.
Fonda is “a feminist, activist, and she remains a star,” said Thierry Fremaux while describing the actress.
Festival officials said they will honour Fonda for “her willingness to embody fierce independence from a young age (and) for her singular personality that has inspired her to choose powerful, politically-committed female characters”.
In an official statement on June 11, the organizers said, “With a filmography as impressive as her roles, she is at once fragile, naive, strong, committed, a femme fatale, a mesmerising presence, as well as funny and irreverent.”
“Jane Fonda is an international star, an icon spanning several decades of audiences, in a world that has drastically changed. She is a resolute woman, truly of her time,” the statement said
The 80-year-old actress is a Hollywood legend. She has won two Oscars for her films “Klute” (1971) and “Coming Home” (1978).
The fest will screen Susan Lacy’s Sundance documentary “Jane Fonda in Five Acts”. It will also pay tribute to Fonda’s father Henry Fonda.
Fonda joins the list of filmmakers like Wong Kar-Wai, Martin Scorsese, Pedro Almodovar and Quentin Tarantino who have received this honour earlier. The Lumiere Festival is the largest international festival of classic cinema.
