Jammu Kashmir Authorities Constructs Business Complex For Women Entrepreneurs

The complex is located near Verinag Mughal Garden, the main tourist destination in the Anantnag region, attracting thousands of foreign and local visitors each year. The estimated cost of the complex is 70 lakh. The Municipal Committee Dooru is responsible for the development of the complex.

Jammu Kashmir shopping complex for women employment
In the first, Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation are constructing a shopping complex to generate employment for women in the Verinag area of the Anantnag district. The Municipal Corporation move came in the wake of empowering women in the valley.

The complex is located near Verinag Mughal Garden, the main tourist destination in the Anantnag region, attracting thousands of foreign and local visitors each year. The estimated cost of the complex is 70 lakh. The Municipal Committee Dooru is responsible for the development of the complex.

Mohammed Iqbal Ahanger, President of Municipal Committee Dooru mentioned that the project has been initiated to empower women locally under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The project is in the completion phase and will be up for auction to help the educated women and girls in the area, as per the report. Further added, "This is the first municipal committee in the Kashmir Valley to build a shopping complex with a focus on women’s empowerment."

Mohd Yusuf Mir, Contractor of the project spoke about challenges faced during the project operations. The project was supposed to be finished earlier but was delayed due to land issues. However, completion will take at utmost two months at most.

Jammu Kashmir shopping complex for women employment, Local Welcomed the Move

Locals appreciated authorities in Jammu and Kashmir for taking notable efforts for women’s empowerment in the area. A resident expressing his gratitude pointed out that the project will aid in educating women so they can find employment nearby. There are many schemes for women, this will add up and make a visible change. Women, who are deprived of many opportunities in our area, this shopping complex will provide jobs for them."

Earlier, the J&K governor initiated several schemes to support women's entrepreneurship in the valley. Hausla is a comprehensive program that aims at women's entrepreneurship by providing financial aid. Another scheme, Tejaswini also provides financial support to young women for setting up self-employment ventures. Under the scheme, female entrepreneurs can avail of financial aid from J&K Bank to the extent of Rs 5 lakh.
