J&K Colleges To Reopen From February 1, Guidelines Issued

Jammu and Kashmir Colleges To Reopen from February 1: Degree colleges, universities in Jammu and Kashmir are all set to resume classes from February 1, after remaining shut for over 10 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, The Jammu and Kashmir government issued several guidelines that need to be followed by the staff members and students in the view of the reopening. As per the orders, the higher education institutions in summer zone areas of the Jammu division will reopen from February 1 whereas, in the Kashmir division and winter zone areas of the Jammu division, the institutions will reopen on February 15.

Talat Parvez Rohella, Secretary Higher Education Department told the Greater Kashmir, “Physical Classes will resume from February 1 for students in Jammu colleges while Kashmir valley classes will start on February 15.” Rohella added that COVID-19 safety guidelines have also been issues to institutes, to ensure maximum safety of students as well as the staff.

“We will ensure all precautionary measures before resuming classes. Department will sanitise the college and all precautionary measures will be taken care of,” said Rohella.

Although the institutions in the region were open for examination and administrative related works, the college will reopen for the first time for regular classes since March 2020.

As the vaccination drive for COVID-19 gains momentum in India, and the number of daily reported cases go down, many state governments in India have decided to reopen schools and colleges. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also approved to reopening of schools and colleges, following all the COVID-19 regulations. The usual rules of avoiding overcrowding, washing hands regularly, using sanitisers, wearing masks, and maintaining social distancing remain common everywhere.
