Iranian Man Beheads 17-Year-Old Wife: 10 Things To Know About The Horrific Incident

The video of an Iranian man beheading his 17-year-old wife on the street after discovering her alleged adultery has shocked, shaken, and psychologically disturbed Iranians to the core. The video has gone viral and the police suspect that 17-year-old Mona Heidari was killed by her husband and brother-in-law in the southwestern city of Ahvaz in Iran. The authorities have now closed the website sharing the video as it was psychologically disturbing to the public.

These killings usually go unnoticed due to the prevalence of honour killings in some parts of Iran, mostly due to societal beliefs, lax laws and light sentences that encourages this behaviour. Article 630 of the Iranian constitution exempts a husband from punishment if he kills after witnessing adultery and according to Sharia law, the blood owners or the immediate family members are allowed to demand execution for the murder of their loved ones.

1.The woman whose head was decapitated was a 17-year-old woman named Mona Heidari.

2. According to Iranian media, the victim was 12 years old when she first got married and was also carrying a three-year-old son when she was killed.

3. She was killed by her husband as well as her brother-in-law in the southwestern city of Ahvaz on Saturday.

4. The reason why they killed her was over the suspicion of adultery.

5. According to local media reports, the woman reportedly fled to Turkey after her family had discovered that she had an affair.

6. The ">woman was soon after tracked down and brought back to Iran by her father and husband this week.

7. Iran's news agency IRNA stated that the police officers have arrested the two men "during a raid on their hideout".

8. The deeply disturbing incident has forced and prompted Iran's vice president for women's affairs, Ensieh Khazali to call on the parliament to take up urgent measures and on authorities to raise awareness to prevent such cases.

9. The incident is also said to have taken place due to the loopholes in the laws in Iran and the prevalence of honour killings.

10. Following the horrendous murder, there were calls to reform laws for the protection of women against domestic violence and to raise the legal age for marriage which is currently set at 13 in Iran.
