In a First, the Indian Women's Football Team gets a Woman Coach. The Indian senior women's football team is all set to face off Malaysia in an international play, kicking off from Saturday, July 29. The team that arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday is being coached by Head Coach Maymol Rocky. Rocky is the first-ever woman coach appointed to the Indian senior national team.  She is teaming up with the squad and is "looking forward to the two matches," India Today reported.

The second match will be played on July 31. The team headed to Kuala Lumpur on the back of a 12-day Camp in Delhi.

"I need to thank the AIFF for the two friendlies. Women's Football in India has been on a high with the inaugural edition of the Indian Women's League being a huge hit earlier this year," she added. "That has added to the confidence of the girls as well."

In a first, a woman coach has been selected for the team. Rocky sets an example, she knows how huge this step is and understands the significance. The task she took in her hand is a great honour, but she has to be the best at her work so the team could shine in the future.

"It is an honour and a privilege to be the Head Coach of the Senior Women's National side. I know there is pressure on me to perform but ever since I took up coaching, it has always been a dream. The real job starts now," said the former footballer.

The players are more comfortable with Rocky but she is a hard task master. - Devi

As appointing a woman coach is working in support of the team, according to Devi, the players are more comfortable with Rocky, but she is a hard task master.

"It's nice to be training under Maymol ma'am. Though there is always that comfort level with her, she has always been a hard task master. But we are not complaining as we understand that she wants us to be better players," Devi expressed.
