The 22-year-old Sindhu, who shunned all her opponents one-by-one to triumph the top place late last year, was dominated by Zhang in the final in three games 18-21, 21-11, 20-22. The one-hour-and-nine-minutes game marked the first major title for the fifth seed American.
Last year Sindhu ended the season with a win in the Dubai World Superseries with a grit. The year, overall, was a well-balanced scorecard for the shuttler. While she failed to clinch the Korea Open Superseries title for India, she held on to the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold crown, along with the silver medal at the Glasgow World Championships – a few of her greatest matches in history.

"I had nothing to lose and pressure was on Sindhu. I played a lot of smashes and an attacking game which I generally don't. This is my first major title and I am really happy. I guess it is the best moment of my career," Zhang said after the match, TOI reported.
“I know my weaknesses and I try to cover a lot. When I got a chance, I was hitting smashes. Normally, if you watch my game, I don’t really smash a lot. I played like an attacking player today,” Zhang told reporters after winning her first major BWF Tournament.
Since then congratulations have been pouring in:
