The head of Jasrana police station Jitendra Kumar Diwedi has confirmed, Punjab Kesari reported. Diwedi has said that the family reported the incident and on Tuesday a case was lodged at the station under POCSO. He further reported that the girl has been taken for medical examination and the accused is on the run.

Earlier a 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gangraped by four upper-caste men in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh on September 14. She died at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on September 29 while undergoing treatment, two weeks after the incident. The incident has shaken the nation yet again and raised several questions on the safety of women in the state.

According to the NCRB report, the crime against women in India has increased by 7.3 per cent in the year 2019. 84 cases of rape happened every year with one case being reported every 15 to 16 minutes. Uttar Pradesh ranked the highest by recording 14.7 per cent of total rate of the crime against woman. It also reported a significant number of crime cases against girls under the POSCO act which was as high as 7,444 cases.
