IAS Punya Salila Srivastava Appointed As Additional Secretary In Prime Minister's Office

The Central government has appointed IAS officer Punya Salila Srivastava has appointed IAS Punya Salila Srivastava as Additional Secretary in Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on a lateral shift basis for the next two years.

Srivastava is currently posted as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). She was seen addressing briefings on behalf of the MHA during the initial days of COVID-19 in India. She is a 1993-batch IAS officer of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa Mizoram, Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre. The Jammu and Kashmir cadre was also merged in the AGMUT cadre after the J&K Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill came into being.

The appointment to Punya Salila Srivastava was given by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). She will handle the responsibilities "for the balance tenure of her Central deputation upto November 2, 2023 or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the Ministry of Personnel order of October 13 stated.

Srivastava did her bachelor's and Master's degrees in science from St. Stephens College of Delhi University. While she was in service, she completed a Master's in Public Management from the University of Maryland, United States of America. Before being appointed as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, she has served as Sub-divisional Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner-cum-Secretary in Delhi, Goa, Daman, Diu and Dadra& Nagar Haveli. She was also the Secretary for Education, Higher Education, Training & Technical Education.

As per reports, Srivastava had written several and two of them she presented in International conferences. She has also been the chair of multiple committees. She has reportedly submitted over five major reports which became the basis for government action.
In 2001, she was given the President's silver medal for her work in Census Operations. In addition to that, she also had a Commendation certificate from Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for her leadership qualities in 2014.
