Raheemunnisa is currently employed in Bahrain as a housekeeper and the girls lived in their stepfather's house in Bakaram, Musheerabad. The incident happened after the man found Yasmeen talking to someone on her phone at around 3:15 am on Sunday, December 18.

The man suspected that she was talking to a male, possibly a boyfriend or lover, and got extremely furious. He slapped the girl and took her phone away. Her sister Nauseenunissa tried to stop him but she was pushed aside. The girl claimed that her stepfather dragged Yasmeen to another room and then strangled her to death due to his suspicion. At around 3:40 am, Nauseenunissa dialled 100 and told the police that her sister Yasmeen has been killed by their stepfather.

Stepfather Mohammed Toufiq turned himself into the police. The police said that Nauseenunissa rushed Yasmeen to Gandhi Hospital but she was declared dead by the doctors there. The police have filed a case against the stepfather and are investigating whether the man had previously had hostile behaviour towards the girls. They have not yet checked the call log of Yasmeen's phone or unlocked it yet for further information. The girl's mother was informed of her death.
