Hyderabad Professor Arrested For Molesting Foreign Female Student

Hyderabad professor arrested on charges of sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of a foreign female student at his residence. The student was called to the professor’s residence under the pretext of giving her a book.

According to the police, the incident took place on Friday, December 2. The police arrested the accused, a senior professor at a university in Hyderabad.

The foreign student from Thailand who only spoke in her native language was allegedly invited to the professor’s residence in the vicinity of the university campus. The professor insisted on sharing a book.

According to the complainant, the professor was alone at home and urged the foreign student to have alcohol and tried to take advantage of the situation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police K Shilpavalli said that with the help of another professor, the student lodged a complaint with the police.

The university issued a press statement and condemned the incident. The statement revealed that the professor had been “placed under suspension with immediate effect”.

Meanwhile, the students gathered at the main gate to stage a protest seeking the safety of girl students on the campus.

The university students’ union also issued a statement condemning the incident, alleging that she was sexually assaulted. However, the police clarified that it was not a case of sexual assault.

The union said in their statement, “We strongly condemn the apathy and deliberate incompetence of the administration in handling the issue”.

The student union asked students and faculty members of the university to gather at the main gate to hold the authorities concerned accountable and demanded immediate justice.

Deputy Commissioner Shilpavalli said, “She was taken to the professor’s home on the pretext of giving her a book and then there he tried to molest her.” She added that the complainant was found “crying by her friends and she revealed some facts”.

Shilpavalli also added that the accused was in custody and that the police would “take remand of him”.
