Hockey India Chooses 33 Women Players For Asia Cup Camp

Hockey India will have a four-week-long national camp in Bengaluru. Thirty-three probables will train for the women’s Asia Cup 2017 under Coach Harendra Singh.

The players recently came back from a successful tour in Europe. They won against Belgium junior men in a 4-3 match. Gurjit Kaur and Captain Rani Rampal scored twice at 7th and 11th minutes and 13th and 33rd minutes respectively. They also played against Den Bosch—hockey club of Netherlands--having over nine Dutch national players.

Hockey India will conduct selection trials in the camp to form an 18-member squad for the Asia Cup. High Performance Director David John and Harendra Singh will draw up the team.

"Newly appointed Chief Coach Harendra Singh is very well acquainted with all the women in the national camp. But a formal handing over of the team happened this morning. "I believe the team has shown improvement. Asia Cup is an important tournament for women to win a direct berth for the World Cup next year."

The camp consists of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 12 midfielders and 10 forwards in total

Savita, Rajani Etimarpu, Swati are the goalkeepers that HI selected. Defenders are Deep Grace Ekka, P.Sushila Chanu, Sunita Lakra, Gurjit Kaur, Hnialum Lal Ruat Feli, Navdeep Kaur, Rashmita Minz, Neelu Dadiya.

Namita Toppo, Nikki Pradhan, Deepika, Karishma Yadav, Renuka Yadav, Navjot Kaur, Monika, Lilima Minz, Neha Goyal, Udita, M Lily Chanu, Nilanjali Rai will play as midfielders. And Rani, Vandana Katariya, Preeti Dubey, Reena Khokhar, Anupa Barla, Sonika, Lalremsiami, Poonam Rani, Navneet Kaur, Navpreet Kaur are the forward players.
