BJP MP from Mathura Hema Malini criticised the opposition for misleading the farmers who have been protesting against the agricultural laws. The farmers have been on the protest for almost 50 days now. Several rounds of negotiation between the protesting farmers and the government have already taken place.

"They do not even know what they want and what the problem with the farm laws is," said Hema Malini, adding that this goes on to show that they are protesting because someone asked them to.

"Our country's farmers are very happy with this bill. But people are agitating under the pretext of opposition," the BJP leader further insisted.

Speaking about the farm laws, Malini told ANI that there is no lapse in the new agriculture laws. "Hoping that there is a resolution soon. It is saddening to see elderly people sitting on the roads in the protests," she added.

Status of the farmer's protest

During the period of the past 50 days, the farmers union and government had eight rounds of discussions. But no definite results came out from these negotiations. Hence the framers continued their indefinite protest. Yesterday, the Supreme Court of India stayed the farm laws and formed a four-member committee which will hold talks with farmers and submit its report in a span of two months.

The Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde said that the committee had been formed to have a "clearer picture" adding that "We are looking to solve the problem."

The Krantikari Kisan Union, in turn, issued a press note, rejecting the SC committee. "We were confident that Centre will get a committee formed through Supreme Court to take the burden off their shoulders," said KKU chief Darshan Pal.
