HD Devegowda and His Wife Chennamma Test Positive For COVID-19

HD Devegowda tests COVID positive along with wife: Former Prime Minister of India and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Devegowda and his wife Chennamma have tested positive for COVID-19. The 87-year-old national president of the JDS informed his party workers about the same on Twitter, and advised them to not panic.

"My wife Chennamma and I have tested positive for COVID-19. We are self-isolating along with other family members. I request all those who came in contact with us over the last few days to get themselves tested. I request party workers and well-wishers not to panic," HD Devegowda tweeted on March 31.

 

He then expressed his gratitude towards PM Modi for enquiring about his health in a tweet. He also assured that he was being well looked after in Bangalore. "I am also deeply moved by his offer to get me treated in any hospital of my choice in any city. I assured him that I am being looked after well in Bangalore, but will keep him informed," Devegowda tweeted.

Dr K Sudhakar, the health and medical education minister of Karnataka said that he will provide all the medical assistance required for the recovery of HD Devegowda and his wife. "I will personally be in touch with doctors and monitor his health and recovery. I wish him and his wife a speedy recovery," Dr Sudhakar said.

Karnataka's  Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa wished for the swift recovery of Devegowda and his wife.

Amid the worsening COVID-19 situation, many politicians have tested positive for COVID-19, and are getting treatment for the same. Joseph Samuel, the candidate of DMK Ambattur recently tested positive for the virus. Rashmi Thackeray, the wife of Maharashtra's Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray tested positive for COVID-19 about a week ago. This happened after her son Aaditya Thackeray, tested positive for the virus on March 20. On Tuesday, Rashmi Thackeray was admitted to a hospital after complaining of weakness.

“As she was experiencing a persistent cough, it was decided to admit her to hospital so that she gets proper medical attention," a Sena functionary revealed.
