An elderly man who was declared dead by doctors allegedly came back to life when the ambulance carrying his body hit a pothole in Haryana's Karnal. Darshan Singh Brar's grandson was in the ambulance taking the body from the hospital in Patiala to their home in Karnal when the vehicle drove over a pothole-filled road. Soon after, the grandson noticed Brar's hand slightly move and sensed a heartbeat, after which they rushed the ambulance to the nearest hospital.
Brar's family told NDTV that mourning relatives had arrived and wood had been collected for his funeral when the grandson called to let them know that their grandfather was alive. The 80-year-old heart patient is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Karnal, where his condition is said to be critical.
Pothole Turns Lifesaver
Darshan Singh Brar's relative, Balwan Singh, said that Brar is a beloved member of their community. He told the media that Brar has an entire locality named after him in Nising near Karnal, where they live. Brar had been unwell for a few days and his grandson from Patiala (nearly 100 km away) took him to a hospital near his house. He was on a ventilator for four days and was declared dead on Thursday.
While the body was being brought back home, the pothole-filled street miraculously turned into a lifesaver for Brar. "It is a miracle. Now we are hoping that my grandfather recovers soon... It is God's grace that he is now breathing and we are hoping he will get better," Singh told NDTV.
Alive But Critical
Doctors at the NP Rawal Hospital in Karnal, where Brar is under treatment now, said that although he is breathing, his condition does not look promising. Brar has been admitted to the ICU, doctors said.
Dr Netrapal told NDTV, "When he was brought to us, he was breathing and had blood pressure as well as a pulse. We don't know what happened at the other hospital, whether it was a technical error or something else... The family said he was on a ventilator in Patiala for four days but he is now breathing on his own. The breathing is laborious because he has an infection in his chest."
