Upon experiencing sickness, the students were rushed to the government-run Jayarogya Hospital on Tuesday night. In the videos doing the rounds on social media, LNIPE students could be seen resting on hospital beds and receiving treatment through IV drips.

Jayarogya Hospital Superintendent Dr RKS Dhakad told Asian News International that one of the students was in a serious condition and was put on ventilator support, adding that a few students were quite serious and being treated in the ICU. He further added that their priority was to ensure there was no loss of life and everyone recovered.

He stated that 97 students between the ages of 18 and 25 fell ill after consuming paneer and were admitted to the hospital.

Dhakad said that they received information on the evening of October 3 about this incident at the LNIPE. They had immediately begun all preparations, and even though they didn’t have enough beds, they made preparations instantly from wherever they could. He added that their staff was always prepared for such situations.

He also added that all the students were admitted to the hospital around 11.30 pm on the night of October 3, and the doctors began treating them. The initial symptoms seemed like food poisoning, as the students experienced vomiting, breathing issues, nausea, cramps, etc. However, it will be confirmed only after the food is tested.

The paneer consumed by the students in the mess is currently being examined. Dhakad said that the next steps would be to determine the condition of the patients on ventilator support and those in the ICU. Further steps will be taken based on their current condition. He also said that the hospital will send a report to Gwalior’s commissioner, who will forward it to government officials.
