Gwalior man arrested for raping two women: A 57-year-old man in Gwalior who runs a bread-making unit, was arrested by the police for allegedly raping two women on different occasions.

The Gwalior police said that the two women filed a complaint against the man accusing him of rape in two different police stations. One of the complainant is an 18-year-old woman who alleged that the man raped her when she was a minor. The accused is now in judicial custody under the rape charges including the sections under Protection f Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO), according to reports.

Another survivor is a 22-year-old woman, reportedly preparing for Union Public Commission Services (UPSC) examinations in the city and hails from Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, the survivor in the FIR claimed that the accused person helped her get a flat in Gwalior. He allegedly spiked her drink with sedatives and recorded her in a video. The police said that the accused man blackmailed the survivor by using that video.

The police added that the accused person allegedly used the same method when he raped the minor girl.

The rate of sexual crimes committed against woman has been on the rise in recent years. According to the data released by National Crimes Records Bureau (NCRB), the number of reported rape cases in the country increased by 7.3% in 2019 when compared to the data of 2018. Over 87 women were every day in India that year, which made the total number of reported cases reach a horrific figure of 31,755.
