The first miscarriage took place in 2019 followed by a second one in 2020. During both the instances, Geeta was going through her first trimester. Harbhajan was by her side when the consecutive incidents occurred. In 2019 he flew down from Punjab after Geeta informed him. Due to the lockdown in 2020, the couple were together.

While speaking to a leading daily, she says, “My son Jovan is a rainbow baby.” She encouraged all women to revive their hopes and pick themselves up again after miscarriages. According to Basra, howsoever early it happens, if it's the first trimester, the loss is felt by the mother far more than anybody else connected to her. She urged all those women who have faced similar experiences, to not give up and suffer in silence, the yearning for a child.

While recalling the two traumatic years of her life, she agreed that it might take a lot of time to heal from the terrible effect of a miscarriage. Geeta explained that after a miscarriage, a woman's hormones fluctuate a lot, which in turn, makes it extremely difficult for her to maintain her composure.

She added that she kept herself strong and did not allow that meltdown to happen. Furthermore, she shared a piece of advice saying that women have to learn to put this behind them in the quickest possible time. When she was pregnant for the second time, she was residing with her in-laws and took every possible precaution.

“I decided to completely rest it out in the first trimester. I just took my vitamins and waited for the first three months to get over. After that, we came to Mumbai, and a little later, I took to yoga. That helped me a lot. Long works in the last trimester were a given. My gut instinct told me that this time all will go well. Touchwood, it did,” she said.

Geeta Basra and Harbhajan Singh got married on October 29, 2015 in Jalandhar, after a long period of courtship. Geeta and Harbhajan were blessed with a baby boy, Jovan Veer Singh Plaha, on July 10. They welcomed their daughter, Hinaya Heer Plaha,  in 2016.

The couple expressed their joy on social media sharing a statement that read, "A new little hand for us to hold, his love is grand, precious as gold. A wonderful gift, so special and sweet. Our hearts are full, our lives complete. Both Geeta and the baby are doing well. We are overwhelmed with joy and would like to extend our gratitude to all our well-wishers, for their constant love and support,"

In 2020, Meghan Markle opened up about the her miscarriage. She recounted her struggle of miscarriage as an experience of “unbearable grief”. Markle stated that many women like her suffer from miscarriages. However, the conversation round the topic remains “taboo, riddled with (unwarranted shame)”.
