Wonder Woman Gal Gadot now dons the hat of a producer, teaming up with her husband Jaron Varsano to launch a new production company Pilot Wave. Her first film as a producer, in which she'll act as well, will be a thriller based on the life of Irena Sendler, a Polish woman who saved the lives of 2,500 Jewish children during the Holocaust.

Gadot will play Sendler's character in this historical thriller. The star took to Twitter to make the big announcement.

The Israeli actress is all set to play this underrated real life heroine who was arrested by the Gestapo at the height of World War II. “The drama becomes a race against time to save not only herself but the identities of the hidden thousands who’ll face certain execution,” the Deadline website summarized.

She was a social worker. She helped Jewish children, who were placed with Christian families and in convents and given new names to hide their identities, smuggled out of the Warsaw ghetto during World War II, when Poland was occupied by Nazi Germany. Sendler died in 2008.

In an Instagram post the Wonder Woman star confirmed, “Pilot Wave is taking off!” referring to the new production company she formed with husband Jaron Varsano. “I’m so excited this is finally out. @jaronvarsano and I have been working on this for quite some time and I just CAN’T wait to bring to life all the amazing stories we’re working on with all of our wonderfully talented partners.”

“As producers, we want to help bring stories that have inspired us to life. Pilot Wave will create content that promotes the perspectives and experiences of unique people and produce impactful stories aimed at igniting the imagination,” she added.

Gadot's upcoming film Wonder Woman 1984 is set to release next summer. The film features Gadot as the fierce Amazon warrior Daina Prince. The superhero action film directed by Patty Jenkins, releases on June 5, 2020. A sneak peek of Wonder Woman 1984 reveals the follow up to the successful first venture of the DC superhero that was released in 2017. She will also star in Kenneth Branagh's Death on the Nile and will next share screen space with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in Red Notice for Netflix.
