Initial findings from the autopsy suggest that Petito died by homicide, however, the cause of her death has not been confirmed as of yet. Meanwhile, police continue to search for Petito's fiance Brian Laundrie, who is a "person of interest" in the case. Reports say that Petito's body was found at a desolate location in Bridger-Teton National Forest. Some travel bloggers had filmed a white van parked along a dirt road near Spread Creek, supposedly the vehicle being used by Petito and Laundrie for their cross-country trip, on August 27. It was less than 1,000 feet from where Petito's body was found on September 19.

Gabby Petito: Disappearance and Search

A vlogger running a channel named "Nomadic Statik", Petito embarked on a cross-country road trip with her fiance in the month of July. The couple was going to document their trip which allegedly had strained their relationship. On August 24, Gabby Petito's family saw her via a video call, during which she revealed that they were at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, following which, they would visit Yellowstone national park. The YouTuber's mother said after their call on Facetime, she received texts from Petito's phone till August 30.

On September 1, Laundrie came back to Florida in their van all by himself, sparking concerns for Petito. Then on September 11, her family filed a missing person complaint which led police to start a search for the influencer. On September 14, the case took a shocking turn when Laundrie left his home, supposedly for a hike at Carlton Reserve in Florida, following which he hasn't returned as of yet.

While police began searching for Laundrie, he was named a "person of interest" in Petito's case, however, no charges were levied against him. Laundrie's family says that he is in hiding.
