Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched his much awaited Free LPG gas connection distribution initiative from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. The scheme which is called the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will aim at providing free LPG gas connections to five crore households below poverty line. This initiative by the Modi government directly works for the betterment of women in villages and city slums and with this we bring you some of the amazing other initiatives taken by the Prime Minister for the women of India:

  • Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

This campaign started in the states where gender ratio was pathetic i.e. Haryana in January last year. This was started to end female foeticide and increase girl education in the state highly condemned for its treatment of women. Surprisingly, after this campaign many other campaigns were started right from inside the states promoting daughters. One of them that got huge recognition was #SelfieWithDaughter.

  • Himmat App

This mobile app was launched by the government in the Capital, infamous for the safety concerns of women. The app once downloaded in the smartphones of women will raise alerts on one click by its user. This will alert the Central Police Control Room, Delhi and tract the caller’s location in real-time in the computer consoles of the Delhi Police. A much lauded initiative by the students of Delhi University.

  • 33 percent reservation for women in Police

The Narendra Modi led government ensured that gender diversity is brought in the combat roles as well in the military. Now there is 33% reservation for women in the police forces even in the Union Territories. This was done at a time when no election was going on. Apart from this, all-female run police stations are also built in parts of Haryana where safety concerns for women is an issue.

  • Sukanya Samridhi Account

Taking into hands the issue of the ill treatment of girls, the Modi government introduced this special account in the name of the girl born in a family in the local bank. According to the norms of the scheme, Rs.1000 need to be deposited in the bank every year till the girl turns 21 years old. One can only withdraw 50% of the amount deposited in the bank account. This can be opened in the name of the girl less than 10 years of age. It was also launched in January last year.

  • Increased maternity leave

The Women and Child Development Minister, Maneka Gandhi took this landmark decision where all the women working in government companies will get six months of maternity leave. Earlier it was only three months and women found it difficult to continue with their jobs. Gandhi stood her ground in front of debaters who were refuting her suggestions.

  • Loan to women entrepreneurs under Startup India

Everyone knows that our Prime Minister is a visionary and he sees India to be having more job creators than ever in the present scenario. But in this movement, he hasn’t spared women and declared in January this year during the Startup India Standup India event that women entrepreneurs will get special loans under the scheme. In this year’s budget Rs.500 crores have been allotted to women, SC/ST entrepreneurs. Every bank branch of all private and public sector banks have to provide a loan ranging from 10 lakhs to 1crore rupees to at least one female entrepreneur.
