Former K-pop Star Seungri Imprisoned For Three Years For Prostitution-Related Offences

The sentence has been preceded by a lengthy investigation into his involvement in the Burning Sun nightclub scandal in Seoul.

Former K-pop Star Seungri Imprisoned: Former South Korean pop star Seungri has been handed a prison sentence for committing prostitution-related and gambling offences. The sentence has been preceded by a lengthy investigation into his involvement in the Burning Sun nightclub scandal in Seoul.

He was sentenced to three years in prison. He was found guilty of facilitating prostitution for investors, and also for gambling overseas using illegal foreign exchanges. He will also be required to pay pay 1.15 billion Korean won (US$1 million) in restitution. He, however, denied most charges during the court proceedings, as per reports.

According to South Korean media outlet Yonhap, the military court said: “The defendant arranged sexual favours for foreign investors on many occasions in collusion with his business partner Yoo In-suk and gained benefits as a result. His crime of commercialising sex and violating our traditional custom has caused no small harm to our society.”

Military court prosecutors in July declared that the star never showed any remorse and shifted blame to other people, he, on the other hand, was enjoying large benefits from his crimes”.

Judge Hwang Min-je reportedly said that he seems to have carried out systematic sexual prostitution.
