Selvaratnam in her momoir Assume Nothing: A Story of Intimate Violence wrote about the abusive relationship she had with Schneiderman and alleged that he threatened to kill her when she wished to leave him.

Eric Schneiderman was earlier accused of sexual misconduct by four women, one of them was Tanya Selvaratnam. Post the allegations, Schneiderman, who positioned himself as an advocator of women's rights and an ally to the Me Too movement, had to resign from his office. In a video published by The Post, Schneiderman allegedly called Selvaratnam his "brown slave".

Selvaratnam wrote, "I was scared to come forward because he had told me he could have me followed. He could have my phone tapped. " She claimed, "On some occasions, he said if we broke up he would have to kill me."

She added that she decided to come forward after knowing that she was not the first woman he had abused and realised " I would not be the last, I knew that I had to come forward." Her memoir has published by HarperCollins and will come on shelves on Tuesday.

Selvaratnam wrote in her book that she was first moved by Eric Schneiderman's commitment to feminism and justice for women. The book also mentions that Schneiderman had decided to run against Donald Trump and had asked Selvaratnam to be his first lady if he gets elected. Later Selvaratnam realised something totally different about her boyfriend and wrote that he was good friends with Harvey Weinstein and he was an "alcoholic who abused sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medicines".

She alleged that Schneiderman was verbally and physically abusive in bed and used to hit her and spit at her until he called him "Daddy" or "Master"

She wrote, “Over time, the slaps got harder and began to be accompanied by demands." He also pushed her to find a young girl so that the couple could have a threesome, she alleged. Selvaratnam stayed with Schneiderman for a year until she could leave with the help of a domestic violence expert.

Tanya Selvaratnam is a Sri-Lanka-Born writer and producer who has received recognition for her work at Emmy Awards. This memoir is her second book, her first book named The Big Lie: Motherhood, Feminism, and the Reality of the Biological Clock released in 2014. In the memoir, she also talks about her father being abusive to her mother.
