The elderly people are breaking norms, inspiring people out there, and proving age is just a number. Their never-give-up attitude and strong willpower is setting an example for the younger generation. Let it be earning a livelihood without begging or keeping the romance alive in old age or running miles in a marathon. In a similar instance, an 80-year-old senior lady surprised everyone by running in the Tata Mumbai Marathon on January 15.

Elderly Woman Runs Tata Marathon

The elderly woman participated in the marathon held after a break of two years. Dimple Mehta Fernandes shared a video on Instagram, in which her maternal grandmother was running the marathon which entered its 18th year on Sunday. One can see the elderly woman running on the streets alongside other marathon participants. She ran in her saree with a pair of sports shoes and held a tricolour flag in the front. 

The woman addressed herself as Bharti Jitendra Pathak, Pathak covered 4.2 km in 51 minutes. In an interview with the media, she mentioned that it was her fifth marathon and she enjoys walking every morning to keep herself fit and healthy. Pathak also added that she’s proud to be an Indian and wants people to know about her national identity and hence carries the tiranga.  

The video shared by Fernandes was captioned, “So inspired by the sheer will and grit of my 80-year-old Nani who ran the Tata Marathon this Sunday."

Many started pouring in comments appreciating Pathak's marathon run. One user said, “What a star,” Another stated, "So inspiring and happy to see her run...Age is just a number."

The third user said, "Wow! This is inspiring.”
