In a fresh turn of events, the Election Commission (EC) has ordered the immediate removal of Munger’s District Magistrate Rajesh Meena, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Lipi Singh today, October 29. The EC’s decision comes after the duo received widespread flak for allegedly opening lathi charge and fire upon devotees at a Durga puja immersion in the said area. The shooting resulted in the death of an 18-year-old boy and left several people injured.

SP Lipi Singh Compared To General Dyer

The Munger shooting took place days before the area’s first polling phase. With the ongoing elections in Bihar, political parties have engaged in a war of words over the incident. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader, Tejashwi Yadav, called for strict action against SP Singh. He even went as far as to compare her with General Dyer – the British officer responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Previously, she had earned the moniker of ‘Lady Singham’ for her unique approach to crimes and police investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have said that it was simply trying to maintain law and order after some anti-social elements resorted to stone-pelting during the immersion. Additionally, they said that the fire was opened by someone from the crowd and not by them.
