As per reports, the cause of her death has been stated as suicide but Suchithra's parents have alleged that their daughter was murdered by her in-laws. Mithun D, the Station House Officer told TNM, "Though we are yet to get the post-mortem report, during the inquest, no suspicions, injury marks or signs of assault were found in her body."

The parents of the deceased woman were reportedly aware of the harassment faced by their daughter. The woman's mother had also called her after the news of Vismaya death surfaced, she was a Kollam district woman who allegedly died after abuse and harassment over dowry.

Suchithra had been married just three months ago. Her mother talked to Asianet News and said,"When I see such news (suicide deaths), I used to tell Suchithra that Amma and Chachan are always with her, whatever happens, and that we need her. My child won’t do this (suicide)." She and her husband claimed that their daughter didn't know how to tie a knot so it is not possible that she killed herself.

Detailing the abuse faced by their daughter, Suchithra's parents, Sunitha and Sunil, told that the deceased woman was being physically assaulted by her mother-in-law and her husband worked as a soldier so he lived away from home in Jharkhand. As per reports, the parents had given 51 gold sovereigns and car ad dowry but Suchithra's in-laws and Husband Vishnu had demanded an additional amount of Rs 10 lakh.

The deceased woman's father had told Suchithra's in-laws that he will provide them with the money after he gets his pension. Since the day Suchithra got married, her in-laws had been allegedly pestering her and her parents for the money as they claimed that they needed it for Vishnu's sister, according to reports.

The police stated that the case is under investigation and more charges will be added in the course of the investigation.
