Female priest performs Dia Mirza marriage rituals: In what is a break from traditional patriarchal convention, a woman reportedly solemnised the marriage between actor Dia Mirza and businessman Vaibhav Rekhi on Monday. Hindu wedding rituals are commonly performed by male priests.

In photos shared by Mirza, a priestess clad in orange can be seen performing the rituals, as the couple sits side-by-side at the altar. Referring to her as Sheela Atta, Mirza took to Twitter to thank her for conducting her ceremony.

Alongside a new picture of the priestess performing the rituals, she wrote, "Thank you Sheela Atta for conducting our wedding ceremony. So proud that together we can #RiseUp #GenerationEquality." Atta, in Telugu, is used for a woman honoured as 'aunt'.

Mirza has won praise from fans and followers for her feminist approach to a Hindu wedding by having a priestess conduct her it. "Long live feminism. Beautiful Lady!!" one user wrote. "God Bless Sheela Atta God Bless the couple," wrote another.

Sharing a series of pictures from her ceremony, the Thappad actor wrote on Instagram, "Love is a full-circle that we call home... Sharing this moment of completion and joy with you..my extended family."

Dia Mirza Marriage Pictures: Industry Friends Congratulate

The couple got married in the presence of close friends and family members in Bandra’s posh Pali Hill, where Rekhi resides.

Mirza shared four pictures from the wedding ceremony on her Instagram. She looked every bit the happy bride, donned in a traditional crimson saree with a red dupatta covering her head. She was also sporting a pair of green Maharashtrian bangles on her wrists and gajra in her hair.

Post the ceremony, she was snapped posing for the paparazzi with her husband, who opted for a white and gold look.

Among those who congratulated Dia Mirza on social media, after she shared her wedding photographs are Neha Dupia, Amrita Arora, Sophie Choudry, Taapsee Pannu.
