As Omicron Cases Rise, Delhi Schools And Colleges Shut Until Further Notice

The government of Delhi announced fresh curbs as part of the "yellow alert" to stop the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the city.

As per the guidelines by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the schools, colleges and other educational institutions in Delhi will stay shit until further notice. The educational institutions were closed last month in the city due to the air pollution. They open for offline classes just two weeks ago. Class 6 and above were functioning from December 18 and the Classes 1 to 5 were allowed to reopen from December 27.

Delhi Schools Closed Again:

The schools eventually did not reopen on December 27 as the Delhi government announced winter break till January 15 for the primary and pre-primary classes. After the recent DDMA order the schools, colleges, educational institutions, coaching centres, training institutions and libraries will remain closed until further notice.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority has also announced restrictions on activities in malls, shops, restaurants, offices among other public places as the new restrictions of yellow alert. The night curfew in Delhi will be observed from 10 om to 5 am.

The new restrictions came after the number of COVID-19 cases in Delhi saw the biggest single-day spike in the span of last six months. On December 27, the city recorded 331 fresh cases of infections. In the last two weeks, the Omicron cases in the National Capital have gone up from 2-3 per cent t0 25-30 per cent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on December 24 that healthcare workers, frontline workers, senior citizens and those with comorbidities can get the precaution dose or the third dose of COVID-19 vaccines. The key gap of 9-12 months have to maintained between the second and the third dose. The health ministry also clarified that there would be no mix and match of vaccines. The third doses has to be of the same vaccine took in the first and the second dose.
